Imagine strolling down a storybook street, where whitewashed houses adorned with vibrant bougainvillea line the way. That’s Rua Direita for you. As Obidos’ main street, it’s a delightful blend of old-world charm and modern-day delights. Obidos has a little secret – it’s called Ginja! This cherry liqueur is the town’s signature drink, and you’ll find it everywhere. I was totally clueless about it before my visit, but the temptation was too strong to resist!
I’m not a huge cherry fan, so I opted for the chocolate version – and oh my goodness, it was a game-changer! I sipped this sweet, cherry-flavored delight from a chocolate cup and it was like a party in my mouth! If you’re in Obidos, Ginja is a must-try. Your taste buds will thank you!
Walk through the Town Gate and step into a fairytale!
The Porta da Vila is your magical gateway to Obidos! Walk through this enchanting archway and be transported to a world of whitewashed houses and cobblestone streets. Don’t forget to take a picture of the stunning blue and white tiles – they’re like a piece of art! And if you’re lucky, you might even catch a live performance by a local musician.

Livraria de Santiago: A Bookworm’s Dream
This church has transformed into a magical wonderland of books! . This former house of worship is now a book lover’s paradise, just a stone’s throw away from the stunning Obidos Castle. It’s like stepping into a fairytale where stories come alive! Get lost in the stacks, find your next favorite read, and soak up the incredible atmosphere. This is one church you definitely want to “sin” in!
